Privacy

What this platform holds, where it came from, and who can see it.

Draft — pending legal review. This page describes the system as built. It is not yet a reviewed privacy notice, and it does not attempt to state obligations under the Representation of the People Act, the Election Commission's rules on the supply and use of electoral rolls, or the DPDP Act 2023. Have it reviewed before this site is announced publicly.

What we hold

Three categories of data

ROLL

Electoral roll data

Entries as published by the Election Commission of India: name, relation name, age, gender, house number, part and serial number, and the polling station a person is registered at. Taken from published rolls; not collected from individuals and not augmented from other sources.

DERV

Derived attributes

Some fields are computed rather than published — surname extracted from a name, and a community grouping inferred from that surname. These are inferences, not statements of fact about any individual, and they carry the provenance of which classification pass produced them.

ACCT

Account data

For platform users: a username, a password hash, the geography the account is scoped to, and sign-in activity. Accounts are provisioned by an administrator and are never self-registered.

Handling

How data is kept and separated

01

Scoped access

Access is restricted to provisioned accounts. Each account is scoped to the geography it is responsible for, and a single sign-in is valid across the state sites that account is entitled to.

02

State separation

Each state's roll is held separately from every other state's. Account data is held once, apart from the rolls, and is never mixed into them.

03

Provenance

Every figure the platform reports traces back to the published roll it came from, so a disputed record can be checked against the register rather than argued about.

Corrections

We are not the register

This platform cannot add, remove or amend an entry on the electoral roll — only the Election Commission and its Electoral Registration Officers can do that, through the statutory forms.

Where our copy differs from the published roll — a transcription error, for example — that is our defect and we will correct it. Report it here.
